How about building a meteor of 1/2" Kevlar Rope all the way through with both ends done into monkey fists...has anyone tried that?

    yes!!!!!
i have, and it rocks! i call it my monster meteor. i would post a picture of it, but you can see it on my handle pic.
i tied monkey fist knots and stuffed them, with a towel and then connected the stray ends together.

hey, try putting some wood glue on the surfaces that have the most contact, as to save the rope and save you from haveing to make another meteor so soon.

let me know if you have any other questions.
    good luck!

because the point where the monkeyfist meets the rope is really weak, and the rope will always break there after a handful of burns. The guy from mutaytor builds his that way, and just goes through a bunch of 'em. I saw him literally rip a pair apart at Fire Arts Festival last year.
