Fire Meteor Construction

I've been thinking about meteor construction, and its dilemmas. The primary problem is that I don't want too much fire for my first burnable meteor, the thing is scary enough without fuel. This is a problem due to the fact that heavier meteors are just easier to spin, the more rotational momentum the better.

So, here's the quandary: how can we maximize the wick weight without having a huge amount of surface area (ie. flames), and not use a metal core for the wick that would 1) rust and 2) cause more damage than fire ever could on impact. I've got an idea or two, but I'd like to hear what other people have before I throw them out there.

I can't say enough great things about cathedral wicks on a meteor. They are heavy, tough, and have a good amount of fire. The real benefit of them is that they won't disintegrate for years.

My experience with cathedral wicks has been that they are considerably lighter than monkey fist wicks, and I'm looking for something even heavier.

all depends on the ends. If you've got monkeyfists with a lead core, yes, those will be heavy. If you've got cathedrals with a wire core, that'll be lighter. The meteor I used had a lot of washers inside the cathedral for extra weight. You can bury a lot of metal effectively in a cathedral if you are clever about it.

I'd say the same thing about monkey fists for wicks, with the added benefit of excellent weighting and balance. Could go either way I think, having tried both, I'd say find your happy medium. Most monkey fists seem to have good weight and a low to medium flame, and of course you can get them in sizes small to large.
