This video shows a rope dart as a dart on the end of a rope, and a meteor hammer as a large weight on the end of a rope.
Not a rope with weights on each end. Hmmmm.
Just has me wondering, because I have always thought meteor hammer was both ends.

Re: rope/dart, meteor hammer vid. ???
Mon, January 21, 2008 - 6:24 AMThere's been some discussions on it previously in this thread or the Fire Rope Dart tribe ( fireropedart.tribe.net/ , though I believe it was this one). A search should yield the info. Basically though, "rope dart" and "meteor hammer" are essentially the same tool, just generally different lengths of rope and different head weight/shape (as seen in the vid). What is referred to as the "meteor" is derived from the "meteor hammer" but is something that is generally consider to be a performance tool with weights on both ends and is often used more for spinning moves rather than the wrap and shot moves of the "meteor hammer"/"rope dart".
Hopefully that helps to clarify things. If anyone has anything else to add or wants to clarify my understanding, please do.
Peace,

Re: rope/dart, meteor hammer vid. ???
Mon, January 21, 2008 - 12:18 PMWhat we call Meteor (in fire terms) is actually Double Meteor Hammer (in kung fu terms)
Rope dart refers to an actual metal dart on a rope, hence Rope Dart... what fire folk usually play with would be called Meteor Hammer by most Kung Fu practitioners because the end is round, not spiked.
