So iv been spining meteor for six days today. Iv got my own Meteor that i made. its got tripple kevlar rope heads on each end, witch is hooked to dog chain and then i have about a 2 ft srip of nylon in the middle (witch is great on the hands by the way).
Is there any kind of hits or things i can do to get better, any tricks (a how to) that any of you can give me?
so far i can do half/full/tripple spins right handed.
half/full spins with left hand.
transfer left and right hand.
and half/full spins with left and right backwards.
i can also do the helicopter thing, and almost throw it up.
i can only do helicopter if i start that way i cant spin into it or out of it.
so were do i go from here?

First, I'm really jealous that you can do all that first time out ;-) I can't do helicopter after a YEAR *sigh*

The meteor book (www.foreworks.com/sparrow.html) was really helpful to me and I also steal techniques from rope dart and have just started a trick with under-the-legs (maybe not the best trick for guys) and a reverse wrap over both my arms. I can only do the transition/catch 1/3 or the time but it's enough to keep me going!

    Good luck!

Ya I started with meteor about three weeks ago after doing poi for over a year. The best advice i can give ya for learning new stuff is to flail and duck. As you have done staff before, alot of your skills with meteor are going to reflect that, so stick with that and get good at controlling your moves that way. I've found that my poi moves transfer easily to meteor and i've also found that my poi technique has tightened up as the hands are tied together.

When you do start into different styles, like more weaves, butterflies, etc (poi-ish style) keep the rope between your hands as tight as possible to avoid tangling.

For weaves, one weight is going to follow the other at about a half spin behind, and your beats will depend on the circles. I know that probably makes absolutely no sense to you, www.homeofpoi.com has some awesome stuff on thier discussion boards on performing the weaves and counting beats.

For butterflies, keep your weights going in opposite directions in front of you, then slowly cross them, keeping left hand on top of the right, with the right hand in front of the left. When trying this, you'll have to make sure that your weights stay planed out so they don't hit each other, and watch yor groin/head depending on which way your spinning. By bringing your hands together while letting the rope slide through your hands, the two handed butterfly can be made one-handed, which makes it easier for behind the back butterfly.

This is going to take alot of practice, and if you know someone who can show you some poi stuff, maybe get them to help you out.

The last bit of advice comes from my poi mentor Shawnie, "just be born with it"

    Good luck! Gord
