So the discussion on 3 beat weaving double meteor has gotten me to thinking. Is it possible to do a 5 beat weave with single meteor cleanly with no thru-wraps or tangling. Since I think there is a direct relationship between poi weaving and meteor weaving the relationship being a 2 beat poi weave with double meteor requires 2 2 beat meteor weaves while a 3 beat poi weave requires 2 3 beat meteor weaves. It seems to follow that to do a 5 beat poi weave with double meteor you would need to do 5 beat single meteor weaves.
Does anyone have any info on 5 beat single meteor weaves? Do you think that the only way to accomplish this is by thru-wrapping or tangling? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Re: [single meteor] 5 beat weave
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 5:39 AMMy standard holding pattern is a 6 beat weave, it involves a half wrist wrap, something that I've become very comfortable with, and is pretty smooth. I still don't have pinky lead at all, so odd numbered beats are straight out for me, but I don't think I'm missing anything. -

Re: [single meteor] 5 beat weave
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 5:46 AMI felt much the same way since I too normally do wrist wraps to add beats. Being able to fluidly use the pinky side is important though as well and using a combination of the two opens up alot of new areas to explore.
Are you counting 6 beats by adding up the circles of both ends of the meteor? If so then I guess in your notation I am asking how to do a 10 beat meteor weave that is fi you are totally all the circles from both ends.
Is there such thing as a 5 beat meteor weave thats in the same vein as the thumb and pinky led 3 beat meteor weave or would it just be adding wrist wraps or a tangle to the 3 beat to make a 5 beat? -

Re: [single meteor] 5 beat weave
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 8:08 AMI mean 6 beat in poi terms, 6 passes of any head on each side. I'm sure a 5 beat is possible, but it should involved a wrist wrap of some sort and pinky leading. -

Thu, July 3, 2008 - 4:31 AMWhat I a trying to say is how to do a 10 beat weave in poi terms with meteor.
With single meteor there is a move akin to a 2 beat poi weave, a move akin to a 3 beat, but what about the 4 and 5 beat weaves in poi? It must be possible to add even more beats your meteor weaves, right? -

Re: [single meteor] 5 beat weave
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 6:01 AMI think, though I haven't fully counted the beats yet, that if you do a pinky led 3 beat meteor weave (6 beat in your terms Logan) and do half a wrist wrap from there on each side so that the side that is normally pinky led is thumb led and the thumb-led side is pinky led you are doing the meteor version of a 5 beat poi weave.
In a 5 beat poi weave, you add an extra twist on each side to switch up which hands lead the crossover to the other side so if you do the same with the 3 beat meteor weave you shoudl get a 5 beat right? -

Re: [single meteor] 5 beat weave
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 8:35 AMI vote the beat reference gets dropped and replaced with Rev's "degrees" and reference to pinky or thumb led.. otherwise, there's bound to be a muck of confusion to wade through.
Just a thought,
Peace,

Re: [single meteor] 5 beat weave
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 9:21 AMI vote for keeping beats for the one handed meteor Fig-8's, since in a 3beat there is an alternation of side-of-hand leading and "beats" can deal with extra wraps as well, and use degrees for poi-esque moves (Since degrees make more sense than beats for poi anyways).

Re: [single meteor] 5 beat weave
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 12:26 PMI was going to start a thread about terminology before I went to work but didn't get around to it. Now after these two posts I think I will.
for the record I like degrees but even alot of poi people don't get the idea behind degrees of twist so I felt that using beats to describe what I am talking about would be much more accessible to folks. Anyway to the other thread!

Re: [single meteor] 5 beat weave
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 7:08 AMNo, no... my three beat is the same as your three beat. I really do mean 6 beat, not different terms, just that many beats.
