So I am a brand newbie of the meteor. I have been spinning the staff for about a year and I am very intrigued with the meteor. Are there any websites/links you have for videos and/or step by step explanation of the moves? Also, any of you live in Portland, OR? I have only seen a few people doing meteor down here.

Re: Websites with Meteor techniques?
Mon, June 13, 2005 - 2:16 AMI, unfortunately, know of no links. Also, I'm on an island about 2,500 miles away from you. However, I learned everything I know just by messing around with a meteor that I made myself, so don't worry, just start spinning it around. One word of advice, when it wraps around your neck one too many times remember to put your hand between the end of it and your face, rather than allowing them to collide. ^_^ -

The only meteor video I have is this one
singefire.com/video/meteo..._meteors.avi
I'm surprised I forgot to post his earlier =P
A lot of what you will see in this video are just poi moves done with a meteor so try and pay attention to anything done one handed =]
Zach, we should both make videos for the meteor community sense there are not many out there. I haven't watched this video in a while but aside from the butterfly tosses I don't feel that this video offers anything else for me to learn.
What do you know how to do BTW?
p.s. I can't wait to master the one handed rotor, vertical and horizontal! -

Re: Websites with Meteor techniques?
Tue, June 14, 2005 - 1:06 PMI don't know the names of any moves, and I don't have a video camera. :( I spin entirely in the horizontal plane, at this point, feeling that the vertical plane is covered pretty well by poi and staves. I spin over head with one hand, or two hands, do an elbow wrap, wrap around my neck once or twice, wrap under either armpit, wrap under both pits, wrap around the waist (multiple times if I fell like it), under the legs, one end under legs the other overhead, throw up in the air like a helicopter and catch, behind the back while leaning forward, and lotsa various linking moves, like overhead-under left pit-around neck-under right pit-around waist, oh and the off-center spin in front then wrap. I guess that's about it? I'll show you in August. ^_^ -

Tue, July 5, 2005 - 4:11 PMI'm curious if you have the neck propellor yet zach, seems like another move you would do if you're into all that horizontal stuff. tricky tricky -

Re: Websites with Meteor techniques?
Wed, July 6, 2005 - 12:41 PMWhen I'm practicing with my relatively smooth roped practice meteor, which allows it to slide across my skin, I can get it to go around my neck and maintain center with no hands. Is that what you mean? My fire meteor is old, though, and has a buncha sand ground into it, so it doesn't slide much, unless I'm REALLY sweaty, which does happen... -

Re: Websites with Meteor techniques?
Wed, July 6, 2005 - 12:56 PMyep, that's the one. I've only been able to hold it for only a few beats, still one of those things I can see better than I can do ;)
Maintaining center, good term. So many more moves are opening up since learning how to properly maintain center, so you can start using any part of your body to maintain center. Elbow propellors anyone? ;) -

Re: Websites with Meteor techniques?
Fri, December 16, 2005 - 8:30 PMI've got some old (7 months) videos of me doing meteor on my home of poi member gallery:
www.homeofpoi.com/gallery/s...allery.php
There pretty basic considering I haven't even included any horizontal stuff.
