This is a good design... fire-meteor.tribe.net/photos/...e1865510

Y oucan also look into this.. fire-meteor.tribe.net/thread/...f24a543b

This is one of my designs.

    Fire meteor

    Materials needed:

    * 1 length of 3/4" braided nylon rope

2 six inch lengths of chain

    4 quick links

    2 1/2" rope clamps

2 wick assemblies ( preferably monkey fists)

    Pliers

    Friction tape

Step one: Using a quick link to connect a wick assembly to each length of chain.

Step two: Cut an appropriate length of rope. Determine the length of rope you will need. If you are more comfortable in the horizontal plane or prefer a contact staff style, you will want your length of rope longer than if you prefer the vertical plane for spinning. If you prefer the vertical plain you will want the over all length of the meteor to be about a hand shorter than your height, so you will want a length of rope that comes to the middle of you chest.

Step three: Make a 3" loop at each end of the rope and use pliers to cinch the rope clap onto the rope, creating a permanent loop on each end of the rope.

Step four: Use the friction tape to cover the rope clamps. ( this isn't necessary but in esthetically pleasing)

Step five: Use quick links to connect each chain to the center rope.

    This completes this meteor design.

    Best of luck,
    Isaac

Learn how to tie a monkey fist knot and make your own. Use 3/4" rope and put a wooden ball inside each knot. It should all be one piece. Meteors like this have a pretty wieght to the ends.... I cannot say exactly how much they weight though.

Another option, rather than wooden balls, is golf balls. I happen to live near a golf course, so that makes it easy to get them for free.

I have found that if you're tieing the monkeyfist with three loops per side, using the 3/4" diameter rope, with a golf ball or similarly sized object inside, then you need around 24' of rope, depending on what length you want your final meteor to be (wow, sweet run-on sentence...). I like the 8'-12' range for my final meteor.

a 3 finger monkeyfist knot with 11mm rope takes me 5 feet. that whole 2-pi-r thing.

There isn't a right weight, there is a good ratio. You want the points to be heavier than the sum of the center segment. This is going to give you a much better "pull" from the end points which will in turn make it act more like a staff.
