Thank you Olive! Now that I've played with with meteor and clubs a bunch more, I completely understand how to go about practicing hybrids one handed with poi and with a meteor. The key is in the pinky led isolation. I guess in California I didn't have the experience with these different props to understand exactly what it was you were doing. I have a whole weekend to practice at this Drum And Didge festival in Western NY so I'll give this a go and let you know how it works out when I get back. : )

(though it's true there's very little activity on this board) well everything (as most things that inspired me) started with one guy: => http://www.homeofpoi.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=329540&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=all&vc=1 now, for doing a one-handed isolated weave, or a one-handed 1A hybrid, you just need to master single-poi pinky lead isolation. For the ones that do club-swing, it's exactly like a snake ! the poi has to stay most of the time along your forearm, as it's a elbow based move in other word, your poi is split-time vs. your hand movement and this will leave you the room for placing the extra poi, beeing in line with your hand movement (same-time) The difficult part is to master the snake isolation (the feeling is a bit like a lower fig of 8, mixed up with conicals) hope to have answered your question :)

Whats a rotor? I'm not sure of the term. Are you doing this flower pattern on only one side of the body? I can't for the life of me figure out how to make compound circles with a meteor without twisting or wrapping the rope. I'm unsure of exactly what your doing since I'm not sure what a rotor is so once I figure that out I'll say more.

Olive you are an incredible spinner and you can't do a one-handed bf! That is so surprising but you know I can't say anything because I couldn't do a one-handed weave until this past december after learning meteor. I agree that continuous twisting is the easiest way to flower a one handed weave or meteor. Sometimees coming out of the tangle the ends go into same time but that should go away the more I practice. Isolating a meteor is way beyond me at this moment. I still cannot get those one-handed hybrids you do Olive. Actually would you be willing to start a thread about them and maybe discussing them a bit? I really would love to get them down but just can't work it out. I plan on making a video sometime soon. I just need to find someone with a camera. If I don't find one to use soon I'll just use a small digital photo camera to film some of the basic concepts so that I can post them on here and illuminate my ramblings with visual delights. the way I'm doing my "one-handed" poi ( Chris, you know I don't play meteor) antispin weave are pretty similar: - continuous twisting / untwisting (your second way), by far the easiest way to start circling around - isolating the meteor (your third way I guess) I haven't played with your first way, as I'm not fond of wirst-warp Looking fwd to seeing your meteor improvement, as your play is amazing (hardly saw anyone kickin the double meteor like you) I haven't played one-handed butterfly circling yet (as I still have to learn one-handed butterfly ... he he) keep up the good work

Ok, as I was thinking about Chris's thread on terminology, I was wondering if what I was explaining above would be more akin to fountain-like moves rather than wall plane flowers. Or would there be a necessary addition of making the meteor do a rotation over the head?

Ive been just doing basic fundamentals over the week. While I was working on turning with rotors, I got the idea to move my hands in a counter clockwise circle, while the rotors were spinning clockwise. Really, I was trying to get the visual comparison to a staff antispin, but If I can clean it up, it should take on a 4-petal wallplane AS flower. I The tricky part for me has been the thumb side losing momentum, not the pinky side. As Im pulling my hands through their circle, the meteor's tension carries the tail end through the rotation. However, the leading head ends up gaining slack because of that and the whole thing falls to pieces. I cant seem to get the speed going that I think I need for this. Im not sure how I would even fare trying double meteors, so damn! Kudos to you, Chris. :)

Alright so my morning practice has given me some insight on some different ways to do compound circles (flowers) with a meteor. So far I've found two different ways to make compound circles and possibly have a third. Some other interesting stuff that came up is that antispin is easier to do then normal spin. The first way involves wrapping the pinky end of the meteor around your wrist twice on the opp side of your body as the hand holding the meteor before crossing over (like in a weave) and doing a flower-like pattern on the side you crossed over to. You can then exit back into a weave. The second involves doing one of those wind-ups/tangles that Nick does and antispinning or flowering in normal spin the tangle and then crossing over to the otherside of your body to untwist. The third would be doing a pinky and thumb switched weave and flowering that which I cannot begin to do at the moment but makes sense that it would work too, since tangles and wrist wraps work. These are pretty basic ways to do a compound circle with a meteor. I'm sure you could start turning and manipulating these in other interesting ways once you got the hang of these simpler ones.

Shit I already have two posts started why not throw in a third. So last night I was working my double meteor weaves and accidently went into a flower with my meteors. It was only for a couple of beats but I have successfully done this multiple times now so it should be possible to keep constant. I am curious has anyone out there worked with flowers both normal and antispin with single meteor. I figure thats the best place to start since one is easier then two however I seem to have alot of trouble keeping a single meteor in plane while trying to turn flowers or keep them going one handed for any lengthy amount of time. Any thoughts, experiences, or ideas on single meteor flowers???
